LEFT-HANDED BANJOS

A RARE
PHOTOGRAPH!
Take a good look at this
photograph taken at the 2002 Redland Fiddlers Convention.
There's two lefties (Gavin Fernon with his left handed
Eucalypt Jarrah banjo is on the extreme left), two long neck
Vegas, and two, well y'know, ordinary banjos. The chances of
getting this lot together in one shot are pretty remote.
IF YOU'VE
FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO FIND A LEFT HANDED BANJO, HERE'S THE
PLACE!
Any of the Eucalypt Banjo
models (5 string custom, the Jarrah, tenor/plectrums, and the
open backs) can be built for you in a left handed
configuration. With the tenor/plectrums we put the fret dots
on each side of the neck, then string it left handed, and then
put the arm rest on the other side for you. What's more, there's no extra
cost for a left handed banjo!
Dennis Burt and his Eucalypt left handed 22 fret plectrum
banjo, a birthday present from his wife. Jess (the dog) looks, well,
you know, patient.
Gavin Fernon gives his Eucalypt
left handed banjo a real
workout at the Redland Bay Bluegrass festival. Gavin is
having lessons with Gary Vann (see teachers Page) and
is fast becoming one mean picker. Recently, we've installed a Fishman pickup under the head so he can
make even more noise.
While on the subject of left handed folks,
or lefties as they sometime call themselves we found this
site the other day and, as they have a link to us, we
thought it only fair to link to them :-

And there's one in Australia too :-

EUCALYPT STANDARD BANJOS |
|
This used to be called the Eucalypt
Jarrah Banjo because we used to use Jarrah Veneers on
the resonator.
As we now use many different veneers
other than just Jarrah (it's still available by the way)
we've renamed it our Standard banjo. An uninspiring name
I know but it's the best I could manage at the time.
